Randy Pausch...A life well lived
Dreams
I'm sure many of you have heard of or seen Randy Pausch's "Last Lecture", but the occasion of his passing (on July, 25, 2008) compels me to blog about how he has inspired me.
In recent months, I've been thinking quite a bit about how short life really is and how easy it is to float down the river of life instead of charting a course towards my dreams. It often feels like everything around me conspires to narrow my perspective. It's like some sort of well organized conspiracy to distract me from realizing my best life. Trading good for great, you might say. This is nothing new. We all deal with this in various degrees.
Randy Pausch is such a striking example of what happens when a person chooses to chase their dreams no matter what life throws at them. He also understood that this life is not about the accumulation of more and more stuff, but rather a incredible opportunity to relate to other people and experience true joy through helping others explore and achieve their dreams. Amazingly, Randy was able to bring people together through the study of virtual reality which ironically is a technology that has the potential to lower true human interaction.
I feel so incredibly blessed with my lot in life. Randy's story inspires me try to open my eyes wide every day to all the opportunities around me to inspire my family, friends, & clients to go big in their lives and never ever give up on their dreams.
It reminds me of the line in the movie
August Rush, "The music is all around us...All you have to do is listen."
Hats off to Randy Pausch...Truly a life well lived!
